Ever since Erik Jørgensen (1928-1998) built his modest workshop in Svendborg more than 50 years ago, furniture under his name has signalled an inquisitive search for new forms of expression based on respect for solid craftsmanship.
Erik Jørgensens spirit is as alive today as it was in 1954 and it is the driving force in Erik Jørgensen Møbelfabrik. Erik Jørgensen sat at the drawing board creating his own designs.
In the late 1960s, he was very occupied with the idea of re-defining the design of the sofa and making the popular piece of living room furniture an esthetic yet comfortable experience. The result of his musings was the box sofa EJ 220, which set new standards for Danish sofa design after its introduction in 1970.
As a person, Erik Jørgensen was innovative, curious and constantly on the outlook for new visual expressions. It was thus not a surprise that he started working with Poul M. Volther, and the architects Johannes Foersom and Peter Hiort-Lorenzen.
In the 1990s, the company chose to open up even more to new, young designers and to support innovative design development. Agreements with Morten Ernst, Anne-Mette Jensen and Louise Campbell, who all belong to the new generation of talented designers, once more cemented the companys pledge to innovation.
